Emmet County

Charlie MacInnis was our guest speaker today and he gave us an update to the Emmet County Commissioners which is all new this year except for himself who is serving a second term. There are 7 County Commissioners and all of them (4) were ousted except for two who chose not to run again.

Charlie spoke to us a couple of years ago and at that time he was pretty unhappy about perceived issues with a lack of transparency and spending $9 million dollars of which the electorate was not involved in the decision making process.

The new commissioners have came in with the idea that it will operate with transparency and citizen involvement on committees. They also cut down on the amount of meetings that are being held and they meet as a larger group rather than putting things in smaller committees which lack community involvement.
