Madrigal Singers

December 13, 2017

by Randy Evans

Gathering before us, each face a candle light,

A choral symphony, a symphonic choir,

Brings us songs from unremembered ages,

To listen to what we used to sing ourselves,

God-made youthful voices,

The human voice more pure

than man-made instruments,

transcending with words

the realms of sound alone.

May these stringy, brassy, wood-windy, foot-tappers,

soprano, alto, baritone, and bass,

progress in sweet-sounding movements

From youth, to maturity, and old age,

Solo or in chorus, as madrigals of

Hope for those around them,

Clearing paths through life’s rubble,

Bringing peace out of every war,

Love out of every hate,

Singing the morning out of each night,

Building new worlds from fresh snow,

Ending long lives with a grand finale,

Music made life, and life made music.
