President Bob Waldvogel opened the meeting. It is a beautiful spring-like day in Petoskey, but the Bay is still partially frozen

Invocation:  Randy Evans read a brief inspiration by Sir Francis Drake

Song:  Steve Cross led us in singing “You’ve got a Friend”, made popular by James Taylor and Carole King; written by Carole King. This was dedicated to Herb Carlson.  We also sang our ritual song, “Smile”

Calendar Winners:  Calendars winners were announced by Dr. James Beno, who incidentally, sold 170 - 2018 calendars!: Link

Happy Birthday:  Terry Newton. We sang a spirited “Happy Birthday” to Terry

Rotary Anniversaries:  Terry Newton #20, Bill Fedus #42

Rotary Park Fund:  Robert Rogier announced the Rotary Park Fund is open until March 30, 2018 for applications. The awards are for capital funds exceeding $5,000

PRCCI Grants:  Jane Millar stated PRCCI is accepting grant requests until April 15, 2018. The grants are for program (non-capital) grants less than $5,000

Rotary Club Social:  Dave Thomas said the first Rotary Social will be at the Crooked Tree Arts Center, Thursday, March 1st, 2018. It will be held from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm. It will include five local Rotary Chapters

Northern MI Mediation:  Christian Smith announced the annual fundraiser is March 12th. It will include food, raffle opportunities and a movie - all for only $25

Guests:  No visiting Rotarians; however, Elizabeth Newton, Mary Mitchell, Nancy Topham, Deanna Klosinski, Lisa Hicklen, Kurt Granwood, Sarah Ulrich and Joe Taylor were all guests

Northmen Night:  John Scholten is selling raffle tickets for the Athletic Department’s annual fundraiser, March 3, 2018. Tickets are $20.00 and this year the prizes are cash. The event is Saturday, March 3rd, 8:30 pm at Stafford’s Perry Hotel

Broadway Show Ticket Opportunity:  President Waldwogel announced that Bob Metzger has donated two tickets for “Get on Your Feet”. This is a delightful musical, and is the story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan. The date of the performance is March 31, 2018 (2 PM), and is in Chicago. Bill Collins will auction the tickets at the March 7, 2018 meeting

PROGRAM:  Lindsay Steffes from the Northern MI Hospital Foundation, introduced Dr. Gerald Gadowski, DO, with Northern MI Heart & Vascular. Dr Gadowski stated technology is rapidly changing and Northern MI Heart & Vascular is staying abreast of the changes. The heart group was recently recognized as top 50 heart hospital by IBM Watson Health. They were rated second in lower returning heart failures and seventh in lower returning heart attacks. He told us about advances such as Watchman devices being inserted to treat Atrial Fibrillation, Intuity valves and Mitral Valve Clips. New equipment includes a Carlo 3 machine to do heart mapping
