President Bob Waldvogel opened the meeting on a bright warm day. The weather was eighty degrees and sunny

The meeting opening was delayed a few minutes while Nikki LeDeur and Dianne Litzenburger orchestrated a group photo for Bob Maledgen’s framed photo and matt to be given to him Saturday for his 90th birthday celebration. The photo will also be used for a story in a Petoskey News Review summarizing our giving this past year

Invocation:  The thoughtful invocation was delivered by Anne McDevitt

Sing/Song:  Steve Cross and Howard led us in singing “The 59th Street Bridge Song”, (“Feeling Groovy”) by Simon & Garfunkel and “Smile”

Birthdays:  We sang “Happy Birthday” to Bill Winslow, John Calabrese, John Emily and Dianne Litzenburger. Today is Dianne’s actual birthday!

Announcements: 

Ride for Polio:  June 16th is Pedaling for Polio. Six riders are signed up 

Jump for Polio:  Bill Collins has collected $2,000 for his Sunday Sky Dive! Jane Millar will also be jumping out of this perfectly good airplane

Danger of Vaping:  John Scholten announced a safety presentation on the danger of vaping; 6 pm Tuesday, June 5th at the Petoskey Middle School auditorium

Habitat for Humanity:  Stuart Fenton said that Habitat for Humanity is sponsoring a “Raise the Roof” benefit June 28th at the Perry Hotel. Two homes are being built in Alanson

Diamonds & Denim:  Dianne Litzenburger announced we have received two “Thanks You” notes – one from Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council and on from MI Trail Council. She also stated we are seeking a 2019 partner for Diamond & Denims. Applications are due by June 18th

Department of Public Safety Open House:  Matt Breed said the City of Petoskey is again hosting an open house this Saturday starting at 11:00 am – 2:00 pm 

Message from District Governors:  Jane Millar read a District Governor recognition letter for our support of the Petoskey High School band. She also listed the five Rotarians we lost during the last two years – Dave Williams (2017), John Jeffrey (2017), Frank Wangeman (2017), Bill Brown (2018), Dick McMurray (2018)

Change of Venue:  We will be moving back to the Bay View Inn on June 6th. and officers exchange will be June 27th at the Perry starting at 6 pm. That will be our meeting that week

PROGRAM:

Today’s presentation was Margo Johnson, Chapter Chair of the Tip of the Mitt SCORE Chapter. Margo gave a brief background of SCORE and then told the story of the chapter’s activity with the Chippewa Correctional Institute, the Dept of Corrections and the Ionia Vocational Village. The SCORE mentors gave a series of workshops on starting a business
