President Steve Cross opened the meeting on an overcast somewhat foggy September day. We have returned to the Perry Hotel and school has started. It is time to think fall is on the way

Announcements: 

Billy/Duff Cabin Outing:  Jim Beno let us know that there will be a fall Billy/Duff gathering on October 4th. Bring a dish to pass, beverages and ham provided; $10 for members, $8 for spouses and $5 for kids

Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra:  Judy Zorn let us know about the kick off for the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra season on September 8th at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts. This promises to be a wonderful concert, and if you have not seen the new venue at Bay Harbor, this is an excellent opportunity to do so

Lookout for the Cookout:  Nicole LaDeur announced that North Central Michigan College will be hosting their annual cookout this Sunday, September 9, 2018, 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm. This will also be in celebration of its 60th anniversary

Calendar Sales:  Jeff Bodette told us calendars will be distributed September 26, 2018 during our weekly meeting. Dr. Jim Beno, who sold 170 calendars last year, told us calendar sales provide almost $50,000 a year for our community. He also told us we are not “selling” calendars, but promoting the good that Rotary does in our community

Diamonds & Denim 2018:  Mike Snyder is promoting ticket sales for Diamonds & Denim, Saturday, September 22nd at The Lange Center in Bay Harbor

Roadside Cleanup:  Tim Kaufman let us know that Roadside Cleanup will be September 29th. Details to follow soon

PROGRAM:

Melissa Thompson introduced our speaker, Tim Nixon. Tim presented a brief bio of his path to being a well-known radio personality in Northern MI. He has moved to and worked in Traverse City, Detroit, Petoskey (twice), Chicago, Tampa, Atlanta, and Grand Rapids. His career path has drifted to a great deal of charity work including helping veterans. He is available to held charities via his morning broadcasts.
