Happy Halloween

Howard Richards led us in “America the Beautiful”

Four Way Test:  Doug Caldwell even with a little confusion about who was running the meeting

Invocation:  Randy Evans who did a beautiful tribute for the shooting victims in Pittsburgh

Singing/Song:  Howard Richards and Georgia Abbott led us in Donovan’s “Season of the Witch” and Smile

Calendar Winners:  President Steve Cross called on Matt Breed, who is in costume every day according to the President, to read the calendar winners for the week: Link

Visiting Rotarians:  Getting cooler out so our Visiting Rotarian numbers are down.  None today

Visitors:  Mike Reaves, André Strydom, Elizabeth Newton and Shawn Stressman

Life Events:

Jim Wibby was the big winner today with both his birthday and 13th Rotary Anniversary today

Announcements:

Calendar Sales Update:  Jim Beno and Nikki LaDeur gave us an update on and reasons to sell calendars. Jim tried and then Nikki stepped in to tell us about “Born to Read” a new program we are supporting, with calendar sales. This is a great program for newborns and their parents at the hospital and a great program to promote while selling calendars

Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra Concert:  Dibby Smith let us know about the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra this Saturday, 4:00 pm at the Charlevoix Congregational Church

Pedaling for Polio Update:  John Scholten gave us the wrap up for Pedaling for Polio on the last day of Polio Month. Our club raised $3,335 this year with our 2 rides and this total will be matched 2 for one by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation

President Report:  Steve Cross let us know that the Park Fund Grant application investigations will be done soon, and the committee will be making recommendations to the board on which grants to make

PROGRAM:

Melissa Thompson introduced Dr. Dan Wickham of SludgeHammer Group, Ltd. He is a Dr. of sludge with his PhD in marine biology. He has developed a process that cleans the “sludge” out of the discharge from septic systems and creates clean water. SludgeHammer Group is a local company that has its systems working world wide to clean up wastewater. For further information you can check them out here: Link

New Member Two-Week Notification:  A podium board meeting was called by President Steve to approve Shawn Stressman for membership to the Rotary Club of Petoskey. He was approved and this is the first of his two-week notification to our membership
