PROGRAM Beth Wemigwase, Harbor Springs Historical Society
Now a resort community, Harbor Springs has a long history beginning with the settlement of the Odawa tribes in the 1600s. After the arrival of French and British colonists, the area developed significantly over the next two hundred years. The primary industry was logging and fishing, with the railroads bringing settlers, then vacationers, to Northern Michigan. Join the Historical Society for a full lecture on the history of Harbor Springs, and stay updated on the opening of the new Shay House, which is scheduled to be renovated and opened by fall 2024, on their website https://www.harborspringshistory.org/. Historical presentations can be viewed on their YouTube page.
