ANNOUNCEMENTS

100 Acts of Service:  This year our club aspires to complete 100 Acts of Service for our 100 years. If you did something to serve others in the last week, please be sure to record it in our online survey -- click here. Thank you!

4th of July Festivities:  Sunrise Rotary has taken over Petoskey's annual 4th of July festivities. They are asking other service clubs to become involved -- cash contributions, or join the program committee to plan the parade, etc. Sunrise Rotarians Andy Hayes, Carlin Smith and Brian Wagner are leading this effort. Please contact Ashley Whitney if you are interested in helping with this on behalf of Noon Rotary.

Park Fund Proposal:  Passed! 60 were in favor, 7 were against. Thanks to all who voted. This means the Rotary Park Fund has the club's permission to release an additional $40,000 in support of our Centennial Service Project. In particular, these funds will be used to incentivize community members to contribute  to the project as well, with a 1:1 match.

Centennial Service Project Fundraising Committee:  We need to form a committee similar to our usual Diamonds & Denim committee, except this one will be devoted to fundraising for our centennial service project (the Winter Sports Park upgrades). While it may involve grant writing, event planning and direct solicitations, it will not involve collecting any silent or live auction items!! Please contact Ashley Whitney if interested.

Petoskey Rotary Club Charities Inc. (PRCCI):  Grant application is now available on our club's website. The deadline to apply is March 15. Please contact Dianne Litzenburger if you have any questions -- and be sure to let local nonprofits know about this opportunity! Every year PRCCI makes grants (usually in the $1,000 - $4,000 range) to a variety of local nonprofits.

Paul Harris Fellowship:  We enjoyed a wonderful, surprise Paul Harris Fellowship presentation. Congratulations to Bill Hicklin, whose loving wife, Lisa, wanted to make it a special birthday for him by surprising him with a Paul Harris Fellowship +7 -- she presented him his pin with two rubies!! And in turn, Lisa was surprised with a Paul Harris Fellowship +2 designation and received her own beautiful, new pin. Even their children were present on Zoom to celebrate them. Congratulations to both of you and thank you for sharing your love with the people of the world and with each other!!

PROGRAM

Today we were joined by Val Meyerson, director of Petoskey District Library. Val gave an excellent overview of the MANY resources available to us through our library.

The Petoskey District Library currently owns about 68,000 items to loan to residents, but they can provide access to over 200,000 items thanks to sharing inventory with other area libraries.

Besides books and media, the library offers many other resources, such as:

- Meeting space for small gatherings

- Access to Foundation Directory and other professional databases

- Ancestry.com

- Newspapers

- Makerspace

- 3-D printers

- Library of Things -- metal detectors, ukeleles, telescope, wifi hotspots, etc.

- 3 notaries on staff -- no charge to notarize documents

- Community Shred Day

Visit their website at www.petoskeylibrary.org to learn more.

Next Week’s Program:  Howard Richards – life of a musician

Parting Shots:  Howard Richards closed with Witch Doctor by David Seville and the Chipmunks, 1958

I told the witch doctor I was in love with you
I told the witch doctor I was in love with you
And then the witch doctor, he told me what to do
He said that

Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang

Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang

I told the witch doctor you didn't love me true
I told the witch doctor you didn't love me nice
And then the witch doctor, he gave me this advice
He said that

Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang

Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang

You've been keeping love from me just like you were a miser
And I'll admit I wasn't very smart
So I went out and found myself a guy that's so much wiser
And he taught me the way to win your heart

My friend the witch doctor, he taught me what to say
My friend the witch doctor, he taught me what to do
I know that you'll be mine when I say this to you

Ooo eee, ooo ah ah, ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah, ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang

Ooo eee, ooo ah ah, ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah, ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang

And he taught me the way to win your heart

Oh, baby

Ooo eee, ooo ah ah, ting tang

Ooo eee, ooo ah ah, ting tang

Come on and ooo eee, ooo ah ah, ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah, ting tang
