ANNOUNCEMENTS

Rotary Foundation Raffle Drawing:  Tickets are $20 each and are being sold until the end of February. Half of the raffle money will be donated to the Rotary Foundation and the other half will be raffle cash prizes. Please see Chris Etienne or Jane Millar if you'd like to buy tickets.

Social Activities - Your Feedback Sought:  As new information and tools are made available in combating COVID, we're optimistic that 2022 will bring opportunities for willing Rotarians to safely gather and enjoy each other's company once again. The Fellowship Committee would like your feedback on the types of social activities you'd be interested in. Please click here to complete the anonymous survey.

Diamonds & Denim (D&D) Update:  This month the Rotary Board of Directors discussed whether or not to resume our signature Diamonds & Denim event, which has been on hold due to the pandemic. Ultimately the board decided to not resume D&D in 2022 but is not ruling it out all together. Pre-pandemic, D&D typically raised about $20k for our charitable efforts (scholarships, donations to local charities, etc.) so by choosing to forego D&D this year we may fall short in our charitable giving compared to prior years.

Possible Alternatives to D&D:  Lisa Schneider and Jeff Wynder have volunteered to gather ideas for fundraising alternatives. If you are interested in helping with this, please contact either of them. Additionally, to help with brainstorming, our Club Treasurer Jim Wibby will give a presentation on Feb. 9 about revenues & expenses associated with our various fundraisers like D&D, the Spaghetti Dinner, etc.

International Project Grant:  The Board of Directors approved a $6,500 grant to support the international project presented by Gernot Runschke late last year.

PROGRAM

Today we were treated to a new series of programming being organized by Karen Ragland, our Vocational Service chair. Karen is having Rotarians of similar profession give presentations about their career field.

We kicked off this programming with a joint presentation by Matt Breed and Mike Landi about their respective careers in law enforcement.

Mike previously worked for the New York Police Department (NYPD), and was appointed the Assistant Police Commissioner. Matt has been with Petoskey's public safety department since 1989.

Both spoke on how they came to be in their law enforcement positions; offered their thoughts on the past, present and future of law enforcement careers; and graciously entertained lots of great questions from our Rotarian audience.

Thank you, Matt and Mike, for a wonderful presentation and for your public service!!

Next Week’s Program:  Alona Kelly - DNA Impact on Professional Behavior

Two Week Notification:  The Board of Directors voted in Craig Stolzenfels at their meeting held January 11, 2022

Club Drops:  Angela Lasher and Geno D’Angelo are no longer members of the Rotary Club of Petoskey
