PROGRAM: Today's guest speaker was our very own Rotarian, Kim Larson, who gave a presentation entitled "The Importance of Reading Food Labels & Healthy Food Swaps." Kim shared lots of helpful, practical information on how to make better choices when grocery shopping.
For example, when looking at food labels:
- Scan the first three ingredients
- Avoid anything hard to pronounce
- Stay away from long ingredient lists
- Focus on whole foods - shop the "grocery store perimeter"
Kim also shared information on healthy vs. unhealthy oils, choosing quality proteins, and gave examples of swapping less-healthy foods with healthier options.
