Saturday, August 15: Northmen Food Den – Adult Prom Masquerade
Hosted by Rotarian Liz McKenney Join the Northmen Food Den for Adult Prom: Masquerade on Saturday, August 15 at the Grand Unity Event Center in Petoskey from 5:00 to 11:00 PM. This fun evening invites guests to relive the magic of prom with grown-up flair and includes signature cocktails, appetizers and a buffet dinner by Sweetwater Catering, a live auction, photo booth, and Prom King and Queen voting. Proceeds support the Northmen Den Youth Pantries.

Member Induction: Alicia Lane – Today we welcomed Alicia Lane to Rotary Club of Petoskey. She works in the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

PROGRAM: Hans Kellogg-Stanley P. Kellogg, Legacy of Art & History Our speaker today was Hans Kellogg, son of the famous Petoskey sculptor, Stanley Kellogg. He talked about the amazing journey his father had in becoming a well known artist, studying in Chicago and Cranbrook, and working with some famous artists. In 1933 Stanley created an Ice Throne for the Petoskey Winter Carnival, and the next year his Ice Throne was lit and was over 125 ft. long, made from 13,000 tons of ice from the harbor. The Kellogg studio was where Fletch’s Garage now stands, and his parents made a beautiful sculpture garden with many flowers surrounding the building. Hans showed the variety of pottery and sculptor his father created, including plagues, mustache mugs, candle pots, relief plaques, and large sculptures, including a ceramic horse called Neptune’s horse that was in front of the studio. There is an attempt to honor this talented Petoskey artist with a replica of the Neptune Horse cast in bronze and installed by the Little Traverse Historical Museum. It will be approximately 85” long, 40” wide, and 63” tall. Cost is approximately $55,000, and they’ve already raised $32,000. The Sunrise Rotary Club is helping with fund raising.
