Obviously, you would give your life for your children, or give them the last biscuit on your

plate. But to me, the trick in life is to take that sense of generosity between kin, make it

apply to the extended family and to your neighbor, your village and beyond.

PROGRAM:  Trooper Corey Hebner, Drug Trends and Vaping

Trooper Corey Hebner discussed current drug trends and the rise of vaping among teens, not only with nicotine, but often mixed drugs or THC. Hebner, who partners with SAFE in Northern Michigan, emphasized that drug issues are not limited to urban areas and that rural regions like northern Michigan are affected due to their location along drug routes from Canada. He debunked outdated stereotypes, highlighting that today’s drug users are not just those visibly struggling but can be anyone, including students. And with access to the internet, people are discovering new ways to abuse drugs and alcohol that include “smoking” alcohol and use powered alcohol mixes.  Hebner urged parents to stay vigilant for changes in their children's behavior as potential signs of drug use. He also noted that while alcohol remains the most prevalent substance among teens, the community is seeing everything from meth and heroin to ecstasy and often drugs are mixed with other unknown drugs including extremely concentrated forms of THC.
