PROGRAM:  Tammy Remsberg, Fit Body Boot Camp

Tammy shared her journey to powerlifting with us.

She was never an athlete growing up. After her kids grew up and left home, Tammy went through a dark period. She also lost two very dear friends during this time. She promised both of them she would “live out loud” and do something meaningful in her life.

She started by running a half marathon in Chicago with her daughter, and really enjoyed it. She started to do more races.

While training for her fourth half-marathon, she was diagnosed with lupus and several other autoimmune diseases. It was excruciatingly painful. Tammy did a lot of research and found that the best thing to do to manage lupus is exercise. She started to focus on weight training and many of her lupus symptoms became manageable.

Her daughter then participated in a bodybuilding competition, which interested Tammy. She started some training at the age of 56, and was advised to focus on powerlifting instead. For her very first powerlifting meet, she lifted over 200 pounds and set a new state record!

As Tammy became more fit, she had a desire to help others get fit too. She was at a gym one day, and was approached by someone to come work at Fit Body Boot Camp. She has been working there for 4 years now. Tammy finds great satisfaction in working with her clients. She loves to see their transformations.

Now at the age of 62 (!!!), Tammy holds 75 state records and 3 national titles for powerlifting. She is 8th in the world for her age and weight class.

Go workout with Tammy sometime! Fit Body Boot Camp is in Petoskey, in the plaza with Dunham's and Sherwin-Williams.

Next Week’s Program:  Leadership Little Traverse – An update on their project and graduation
