A Wish for the Week Ahead

May you discover at least one good thing

In every day, even if you have to put on your glasses and squint,

May you carry hope in your pocket,

Courage in your heart, and love in both hands.

May you remember it is not mandatory to respond

To ignorance, foolery, and/or provocation;

Your peace is valuable and besides,

You’re busy with more important matters.

May your coffee sustain you. May your kindness guide you,

and may your humor keep you out of jail.

PROGRAM  Vocational Program:  Gail Kloss, Women’s Resource Center

Today's program featured Gail Kloss, the Executive Director of the Women's Resource Center of Northern Michigan (WRCNM).  Gail began by acknowledging that the Petoskey Rotary Club has supported the center since its inception in 1967.  The Center's initial focus was on support for victims of domestic violence and that programs have expanded over the years.  She reminded members that often these situations are complex and we only see the tip of the iceberg.  She reviewed how to access WRCNM at the 24-hour Help and Information Line: 800-275-1995. Last year, the Help Line received over 1600 calls.  The full range of services can be seen on the WRCNM Website.  The newest program is the Children's Advocacy Center, providing a safe space for children to tell their experiences in traumatic situations.  The Center conducted 51 interviews last year and has already conducted 40 such interviews this year.  Ms. Kloss went on to say that everyone at the WRCNM is very excited to move into their new location on Summit Park Drive.  The new location will enable the Center to consolidate its services and provide greater comfort to those accessing the services.

At the conclusion of Ms. Kloss' remarks, President Reg presented her with a symbolic $50,000 check representing the Petoskey Rotary Club's support for the Center and, especially, its expanded child care programs.
