Pedal for Polio - Thank You:  A huge thanks to all who participated in and/or donated to this season's Pedal for Polio fundraiser! We had 5 riders, who chose to eat Johan's donuts afterwards instead of drinking beer at Petoskey Brewing. Can you believe that?!?

Calendar Sales:  Mark your calendars! Calendars are due in 9 weeks. Please return raffle tickets and the funds collected to Karen Ragland. Each member is responsible for 10 calendars ($250). Thank you for your efforts!

Holiday Food Donations for Manna:  Parkside Deli (owned by Rotarian Sarah McDonnell) will be a drop-off location for those who wish to donate holiday-themed food to Manna Food Project (such as canned pumpkin, fried onions, stuffing mix, etc.)

STRIVE Announcement:  STRIVE is looking for mentors, in particular male mentors to pair with students in need of a mentee. They have significant interest this year from students. Can you help? Imagine the difference you can make in the life of a local youth! See Georgia Abbott for more info.

PROGRAM:

We began with Christian Smith and Terry Newton explaining our club's nursing scholarship program. We typically award two $1,500 nursing scholarships per year to NCMC students. One scholarship is for a first-year student; the other is for a second-year student.

One of the two scholarship recipients was present today to receive his award. Congratulations to first year NCMC nursing student, Cameron Johnson!! Cameron recently graduated from Petoskey High School. He was inspired to enter the medical profession by his mother and his grandfather. Cameron eventually hopes to obtain his master’s degree and become a family nurse practitioner.

Next, we heard a presentation from Chris Etienne about HANWASH, which stands for Haiti National Clean Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Strategy.

HANWASH is a partnership between Rotary International and Haiti's water agency to deliver safe, affordable, and sustainable water and sanitation to everyone in Haiti.

Haiti has 22 Rotary clubs and 500 Rotarians bolstering these efforts. There have been 44 water and sanitation projects completed since 2014, representing a $4.6 million investment.

HANWASH seeks to move past the idea of 'providing relief' and instead embrace locally-led and sustainable developments. Click here to learn more about HANWASH.
