Program:  Diamonds & Denim Partner Check Presentation

Several YMCA of Northern Michigan staff, board and volunteers were present to receive a $55,000 check from Petoskey Rotary Club Charities, Inc. following our successful collaboration on this year’s Diamonds & Denim fundraiser. This is the second largest check ever awarded through D&D!! Congratulations on a job very well done

Afterwards, Dibby Smith gave a great overview of the Rotary Foundation and its focus on polio eradication

Since 1985 the Rotary Foundation has contributed more than $2 billion to help eradicate polio. The Foundation is currently committed to raising $50 million per year. For every dollar the Rotary Foundation raises, it is matched with two dollars from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation—amounting to $150 million annual investment in polio eradication efforts

On October 24 (World Polio Day) it was announced that another strain of polio (Type 3) has been declared eradicated. We are still working to combat Type 1 though. There’s been an uptick of polio cases in Afghanistan and Pakistan

Dibby also announced that in early 2020 our club will begin a new Rotary Foundation pool. If you choose to participate in the pool, then you agree donate $50 per quarter to the Rotary Foundation for a 5-year period (which totals $1,000 and grants you a Paul Harris Fellowship). Stay tuned for details
