As we celebrate our 100th birthday tomorrow, these words from Dorothy Day could

have been written about Rotary.

“What we would like to do is change the world – make it a little simpler for people to

feed, clothe, and shelter themselves. By fighting for better conditions, we can, to a

certain extent, change the world. We can work for the oasis, the little cell of joy and

peace in a harried world. We can throw our pebble in the pond and be confident

that its ever-widening circle will reach around the world.”

Rotary Care List:

  1. Member Teri Donaldson’s husband Mike completed his radiation and chemotherapy therapy this week. It will take some time for him to heal and recover. A PET scan is scheduled for late December. We hope to celebrate the New Year cancer free. Thank you for all your thoughts, prayers, and hugs. Teri Donaldson

  1. Dan passed away Sunday here at home right after his kids had left. Chris Bartlett and I were in the room with him, and it was very peaceful. I wanted to say thank you for all of the wonderful notes and messages I have received. We are going to have a memorial service on Saturday, November 6, at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey. The gathering is at 1 p.m. and the service is at 2 p.m. Sharon Schappacher

  1. I am sorry Linda, and I won’t be able to make it to the Gala event. I had low back surgery on Oct. 26th with four screws and I am supposed to lay low for 8 to 10 weeks. I have had right foot pain for 4 years and right foot drop for 7 years, all because of a 90% pinched nerve of L5 due to a severe slipping forward of L5 vertebrae called a spondylolisthesis. Probably caused from an early lifetime broken back at L5, got progressively worse in my 48 years as a chiropractor, treating and bending over approximately 250.000 patients during that time. Thank God for Reggie taking over my practice. I am doing extremely well. I am on pain meds in which I am already starting to taper off. I have been warned to take it easy and not to fall, for they would have to do the surgery again if the screws loosed up. I love Rotary, always have, and miss you all. Have a great time at the Gala event. Jim Beno

  1. Please keep Jane Millar in your thoughts. Jane is undergoing a second knee surgery to address an infection that developed after her first surgery. Speedy healing, Jane!

PROGRAM  Recent Rotary History

This week we enjoyed a sneak peek of the photo slideshow that will run during our Centennial gala on Thursday night. It was a lovely, 8-minute slide show with LOTS of historic photos showcasing our club over the years!

President Ashley Whitney also shared some meaningful numbers with us. For example:

It's been 36,525 days since our club was founded.

Our club has met over 5,000 times.

In the last 16 years, we've donated over $1.2 million (!!!) to community causes.

We've been meeting weekly at a Stafford's Hospitality property for the last 51 years.

Next Week’s Program:  Rotary Foundation and Paul Harris
