International Insight:  For many years, Rotary exchanges happened only in person.  Inspired by the all that we learned from the pandemic, 2023-24 Rotary International President R. Godon R. McInally has made it a priority to support districts in emphasizing peacebuilding and using virtual components to connect people through their programs and events.  This allows Rotarians to build peace through virtual and hybrid exchanges.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

New! Member Spotlight: In this week's Rotary Member Spotlight, longtime member Stafford Smith shared insights into his family's deep connection with the Rotary Club of Petoskey and the local community. As part of a proud Rotary legacy, Stafford highlighted that his son, and grandson, and numerous other family members are or have been members of the club, making Rotary a multi-generational tradition. He also discussed the history of Stafford's Hospitality, a family business that has grown into a beloved institution in Petoskey. Stafford’s commitment to service and community through both Rotary and his family’s business continues to leave a lasting impact on the region. Each week we will hear from a different member.

Dues Increase:  Dues will be slightly increasing to $166 a year and will be reflected in your October invoices. For questions or concerns, contact Christian Smith or Jim Wibby.

Pedal for Polio:  Get ready to pedal with purpose! On October 19 at noon, the Rotary Club of Petoskey is hosting Pedaling for Polio—a fun ride to raise money for the fight to End Polio Now. Don’t worry about a little rain; we’ve got you covered with a rain date on October 20! Join fellow members for a spirited ride, or cheer from the sidelines by donating to support our participants. Every dollar brings us closer to a polio-free world, and we need your energy—whether it's on two wheels or through a generous gift! Let’s make a difference together, one pedal at a time. See Terry Newton or John Scholten to sign up or donate. ***Turn $100 into $300! Every dollar you donate is matched by a $2 donation from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation!***

Santa’s Secret:  Secret Santa is coming soon! A sign-up will be circulated soon to participate.

Hurricane Relief:  Our club approved a $2,500 donation to the hurricane relief fun in North Carolina.

Entertainment Opportunity:  The Great Lakes Center for the Arts has offered our members 20 complimentary tickets to see Lucie Arnaz this weekend. First come, first served – see Christian Smith if you’d like to secure your seat.

New Member Induction:  Today, Rotary Club of Petoskey welcomed Samantha (Sam) Fee as its newest member. Samantha, a Petoskey resident, brings her expertise as a Landscape Designer and Social Media Manager with OCBA. Her induction marks the start of an exciting chapter, and we look forward to her contributions to the club and community. Samantha dove right in as a volunteer at last month's Roadside Cleanup. Welcome, Sam!

PROGRAM:  Caitlin Koucky, Ryan Jones, Community Recovery Alliance

At today’s Rotary Club meeting, Caitlin Koucky from Petoskey's Community Recovery Alliance gave an insightful lecture on their comprehensive services, aimed at supporting individuals on their journey to recovery from substance use disorders. The organization also introduced its new Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative, which encourages local businesses to create supportive environments for employees in recovery. This initiative offers training, resources, and strategies to help workplaces foster a culture of understanding, ultimately contributing to healthier communities and more resilient businesses. The presentation highlighted how Rotary members and local organizations can get involved in this impactful movement.  https://www.crami.org/
