Welcome to the Rotary Club of Petoskey. President Andrea Coronado officiated this week’s meeting, her last one as President.

As Rotarians, we spend a lot of time showing up—usually around lunchtime, sometimes just in time—but always with a shared desire to do some good in the world (and enjoy a meal along the way).
We know that service above self means leadership isn’t about titles or who’s at the head of the table. It’s about purpose—and the willingness to keep showing up with open hands and open hearts.
Today, we thank Andrea for her leadership this past year and welcome Sharron as she steps into this new role. We’re grateful for the time, energy, and friendships that make this club such a special place.
And as we move forward together, we’re reminded of these words from Martin Luther King Jr.:
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?”

Paul Harris Fellow Recognition: The meeting began with a special presentation by Gernot Runschke, District 6290 Foundation Chair, who presented a recognition to Chris Etienne and Dennis Lindeman as Major Donor times three which equals $50,000 - $99,999 in giving to The Rotary Foundation.

Saturday, August 15: Northmen Food Den – Adult Prom Masquerade
Hosted by Rotarian Liz McKenney
Join the Northmen Food Den for Adult Prom: Masquerade on Saturday, August 15 at the Grand Unity Event Center in Petoskey from 5:00 to 11:00 PM. This fun evening invites guests to relive the magic of prom with grown-up flair and includes signature cocktails, appetizers and a buffet dinner by Sweetwater Catering, a live auction, photo booth, and Prom King and Queen voting. Proceeds support the Northmen Den Youth Pantries.

PROGRAM: Officer Exchange
Celebrating Leadership
The club then gathered to celebrate the conclusion of Andrea Coronado’s year as Rotary President as she officially passed the torch to incoming President Sharon Shappacher. During the ceremony, Andrea and Sharon exchanged pins, symbolizing the transition of leadership and the continuation of Rotary’s work in our community.
As part of the celebration, the club also recognized Immediate Past President Christian Smith as his service in that role came to a close. Andrea offered a heartfelt thank you to Christian for his unwavering support throughout her presidency. Whether answering questions, serving as a sounding board for new ideas, or simply showing up for the club (and ordering chicken tenders), Christian’s guidance and friendship were deeply appreciated.
PRCCI Leadership Transition
The meeting also included a leadership transition for the PRCCI Board. Members expressed their gratitude to Liz Ahrens for her dedicated service as she stepped down from her role. Liz was presented with flowers as a token of appreciation for her contributions. The club welcomed Ashley DeCarteret, who will continue leading the board’s efforts moving forward.
Looking Ahead
The highlight of the meeting was the induction of Sharon Shappacher as the club’s new president. After taking her oath of office, Sharon rang the Rotary bell for the first time as president, officially concluding the meeting and beginning a new chapter for the Petoskey Noon Rotary Club.
Sharon shared three primary goals for the coming year:
- Increase fundraising efforts to provide more scholarships and grants.
- Encourage greater member participation and engagement.
- Strengthen and grow community connections.
Sharon also took a moment to recognize Bill Collins, thanking him for introducing her to Rotary and inspiring her to become a Rotarian in the first place.
As we begin a new Rotary year, we thank Andrea for her outstanding leadership and service, congratulate Sharon on her new role, and look forward to another year of making a positive impact in our community.
